Song of the week: Poison Tree by Grouper
Hello Wannabes! Today’s post is a modern version of last week’s Stockholm Syndrome post. I mentioned that I wrote last week’s when I was 18, and I thought what better way to parallel that than with a similar poem in my current writing style? It is darker in tone and content, so some trigger warnings there!
don’t fret, my darling you are okay safe in my presence protected, only in my sight because when you leave i get anxious and you know you can’t take care of yourself remember? you hurt yourself last time ventured too far out and met those who wanted to 'open your mind' but it didn't stick, thank god the information felt like sin in your eardrums a spoonful of sickly syrup sending your stomach on high alert so you came crawling back to me, knees and elbows scraping the ground and, as kind-to-a-fault as i am i took you back i bandaged your wounds, banished the drivel they taught you, and took you back look i made the cage bigger this time increased the size of the cuffs around your ankles so they won’t chafe i added all of your favorite snacks even made the ball gag your favorite color i will shower you, feed you, groom you everything you need don’t fret, my darling i know you best
Yooo, this is dark but beautifully written and unsettling. Bravo!!
DAMN
Similar themes, similar ideas, but this hits harder and the words are more expertly wielded. It's cool to see these two juxtaposed because it shows how much you've learned since you were 18! Don't get me wrong, both are good, but this shows experience! Nicely done and darkly so too!
